Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy

Grandmaster Anthony Moy Tung

Anthony Dandridge started training martial arts at age ten, and began a life-long search for the source of the martial arts. In 1980 he began training under Grandmaster Moy Yat, and, having found what he was looking for, he dedicated himself to mastering Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Kung Fu. He joined Moy Yat’s Special Student Association (SSA) in 1984, formalizing his status as a disciple, and receiving his Kung Fu name, Moy Tung, meaning ‘Man from the East’. In 1986, at his Sifu’s direction, he founded the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy, to give Kung Fu back to the community, and to pass on the Ving Tsun system

Grandmaster Moy Tung maintained a close relationship with his Sifu, Moy Yat, until the great grandmaster’s passing in 2001. He would host Grandmaster Moy Yat for annual workshops with his students in Richmond, Va, and made many trips to New York every year, often bringing students with him.

Today, there are well over 20 branches in 3 generations teaching in Grandmaster Moy Tung’s own Kung Fu lineage. Including the Richmond Academy HQ, there are four RVA Moy Tung Kung Fu branches alone. The complete list of official Moy Tung Kung Fu lineage schools can be found on the website of the Moy Tung Athletic Association (MTAA). Grandmaster Moy Tung travels the US teaching workshops at these branches, and he still teaches at the Richmond Academy, where students come from around the country for workshops. Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy Location Info

The Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy teaches the Ving Tsun Kung Fu system of martial arts, for self-defense, and for mental & physical health-and-fitness. Ving Tsun training is disciplined mind-body exercise for self-improvement and personal development.

Kung Fu workouts develop practical self-defense skills. Students learn to stand strong on the feet, using the hands to block and hit simultaneously. Ving Tsun Kung Fu training is efficient and effective, building relaxed energy from deep breathing, and power from the horse stances and centerline structure.

Programs at the RVA Academy are directed by Grandmaster Anthony Moy Tung, a second-generation student of the legendary Yip Man. Senior instructors lead group classes for men, women, kids and teens. Private lessons are available.

The school is located in an upgraded 2500 sq’ facility with multiple training chambers, plus an outdoor area and a large basement. There are Muk Yan Jong Wooden Dummy’s and Luk Dim Boon Kwan poles for those advanced in the Ving Tsun system.

The Academy serves the RVA Metro River City region, and is centrally located, in the Downtown Capitol District. Just 5-10 minutes away are the Fan, Jackson Ward, Scott’s Addition/the Diamond, Carytown, Oregon Hill, Shockoe, Church Hill, and the Manchester, Forest Hill and Woodland Heights neighborhoods in Southside. Within a 15” drive are the East End, East Highland Park, Montrose and Sandston, Mechanicsville, Highland Springs and other parts of Henrico and Hanover County.

The Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy doubles as the Headquarters for the Moy Tung Athletic Association. Sifus and students from all over the country travel to Richmond for workshops, and, regionally, students travel regularly from cities as distant as Fredericksburg and Colonial Heights, for Ving Tsun training not available elsewhere.

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), VCU Health/MCV, Virginia Union University (VUU) and University of Richmond students and employees take note; 10% discounts are offered to students, as well as to active/veteran law enforcement or military, and others in public service and health professions.
