Ving Tsun System

THE VING TSUN (WING CHUN) KUNG FU SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED TO BE SIMPLE, EFFICIENT & EFFECTIVE.

The ancient Shaolin Kung Fu masters looking for the essence of the Martial Arts discovered that, with a certain set of form details & training methods:

  • Human beings can develop knock-out punching power, and can block-and-hit simultaneously while staying on the feet, without size or strength, and in a relatively short period of time. This Centerline system is rich, deep and challenging to master, and enables human beings to develop Kung Fu to their highest potential.

  • This is good for mind-body health, self-improvement & life enjoyment, in addition to self-defense.

  • The system is simple to pass on to others of good character, and doing so strengthens community & society.

Theory

THE CONCEPTS OF VING TSUN AS A UNIQUE MARTIAL ART ARE ROOTED IN OPTIMIZATION OF THE BODY & MIND FOR FIGHTING IN SELF-DEFENSE.

Foundational Principles of the Ving Tsun System:

  • Centerline: The body’s simple centerline structure allows economy of energy & movement, for efficient & effective self-defense. Centerline training enable simultaneous offense & defense; hands and feet can block and strike simultaneously. The simple system means less training time is needed to realize real-world fighting skills.

  • Relaxation: Speed & power come from relaxed training, with deep breathing, and disciplined focus on Centerline details. ‘Relax’ means let go of physical/mental tension, and paying attention to the present. Ving Tsun is mind-body exercise, trained deeply enough to be maintained while facing attacks.

  • Horse: Ving Tsun Kung Fu training uses powerful horse stances rooted in the body’s natural Centerline structure. These training methods, in the forms and two-person exercises, develop strong legs that can keep you on your feet in a fight. Practitioners develop hands and feet that work together with relaxed power and control, able to block and hit at the same time.

Practice

FORMS TRAINING

The classical exercises of Chinese Kung Fu, perfected by generations of masters since antiquity. Learned in class, practiced individually, they develop the stance, posture, techniques, and power dynamics of the fighting art. From the forms come Ving Tsun’s myriad techniques and conditioning drills.

PARTNERED DRILLS

The Ving Tsun system has a carefully constructed set of collaborative, hands-on exercises in which students are partnered to practice specific techniques with varying intensity and levels of resistance. The drills enable students to condition the body and develop Ving Tsun reflexes, with minimal risk of injury.

MASTERY

“If you’re training ten hours a week, you’ll know authentic Kung Fu.” — Grandmaster Moy Tung. Mastering any Martial Art takes time & energy, discipline and hard work with focus and dedication.

If someone trains in an MTAA Ving Tsun Kung Fu program for just a couple days a week, and for only a year or two, they can develop practical self-defense skills, plus learn a system of exercise they can practice on their own, with little space and no equipment needed. This is good for individuals and society, and may be enough for many people.

Most of the Sifus in the Moy Tung lineage have ten or more years experience, and a history of training ten or more hours per week, plus many long-weekend or week-long workshops and private time with Moy Tung. If someone wants to master the Ving Tsun system, and share it with their community in their own Moy Tung Kung Fu branch school, with authentic and invaluable relationships in the Moy Tung clan that support their success, that opportunity is also available.
