2022: Houston Ten-Year Anniversary
In 2022, the Houston Moy Tung Kung Fu Academy celebrated its ten-year anniversary, hosting Grandmaster Moy Tung, and the Sigung of the Houston branch, MY3 Sifu Moy Sup Tung Aaron Vyvial, for a long weekend Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu seminar and training workshop.
2022: Maryland Celebrates Decade of Kung Fu with Moy Tung Workshop
In 2022, Montgomery County Kung Fu celebrated its first decade of continuous operation with its first in-person workshop with Grandmaster Moy Tung since Coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions began to ease. The inter-school, inter-generational training workshops are a hallmark of the MTAA branch schools, and it had been missed. Sifus and students visited from Richmond, Virginia Beach and Fredericksburg in Virginia, and from as far as New York and Iowa.
The Maryland Kung Fu school, located in the Kentlands shopping district of Gaithersburg, MD, was founded in 2010 by MY4 Sifu Brad Schonhorst with his wife and fellow Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu student under MY3 Sifu Moy Yee Tung, Liz Schonhorst. The school teaches the Ving Tsun Kung Fu system exclusively, for fitness and self-defense.
2021: Chicago Inaugural Moy Tung Seminar
In 2021, the Chicago Northside Kung Fu school held its first annual seminar with Grandmaster Moy Tung. The Chicago MTAA branch school is run by MY5 Sifu Cyrus Slobin, an inner circle student of Detroit MY4 Sifu Lung Yat Tung.
2021: Asheville Kung Fu Inaugural Workshop with Moy Tung
Asheville Kung Fu is a 3rd generation MTAA branch school in North Carolina founded in 2018 by MY5 Sifu Alan Hoffman. The Asheville school held its first annual long-weekend workshop with Grandmaster Moy Tung in September of 2021. A Moy Tung-lineage Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu school hosting a seminar with the Grandmaster is an important annual event, and the first one for a great-grand student Sifu is a big deal.
Sifus and students visited from Richmond and Detroit, where Sifu Hoffman began his training in 2013 under MY4 Sifu Lung Yat Tung Owen Matson. The event was a great success, with training going on all week in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, as well as at the Kung Fu school.
2021: Austin Moy Yat Kung Fu 20th Anniversary
2021 marked the 20th anniversary of the Austin, Texas Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy, founded in 2001 by MY3 Sifu, Moy Sup Tung Aaron Vyvial. From the beginning, his goal in teaching was the same as his Sifu, Grandmaster Moy Tung, founder of the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy: Ving Tsun Chuen Jing Ting — passing on the system authentically, unchanged by one’s own ideas.
2020: RVA West End 20th Anniversary
In 2000, MY3 Sifu Moy Lung Barry O’Brien was the last person accepted into Grandmaster Moy Yat’s GSS Association for grand special students. In 2020, the Richmond Henrico West End Academy of Kung Fu founded by Moy Lung celebrated its 20th anniversary of teaching the Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu system in the Moy Yat lineage.
2020: Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Anniversary
2020 was a different kind of year for everyone. Usually, the Moy Tung clan celebrates the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy anniversary with a long-weekend of in-person training, and instruction in Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu by Grandmaster Moy Tung, SSA guests and MY3 Sifus.
2020, however, was the first year of Coronavirus and COVID-19, so this was the first year there was an option to participate by live video, and many did. Until restrictions were lifted, live-video classes and workshops were the way many Moy Tung-lineage schools adapted and kept the training and instruction going.
2019: Milwaukee Moy Tung Workshop
In 2016 MY3 Sifu Tim Lee opened the doors of the Waukesha Moy Yat Kung Fu school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For the third anniversary, Sifu Lee hosted his Sifu, Grandmaster Moy Tung for a long-weekend seminar of Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu martial arts training and instruction.
2019: Kung Fu Portland 5-Year Anniversary
Portland Kung Fu, a MTAA Branch school founded by MY5 Sifu Dave Bearce, celebrated its 5th anniversary April of 2019. The MY5 is Grandmaster Moy Tung’s association for his inner circle great-grandstudents in the lineage of Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu system.
2018: Celebrating 3 Decades of Moy Yat Kung Fu in Richmond, Va
More than 200 people attended the 30th Anniversary observance of the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy, between the Moy Tung lineage, and the extended Moy Yat SSA Kung Fu family that came to visit. Three generations of Sifus are teaching the Ving Tsun (wing chun) system in Grandmaster Moy Tung’s clan, in more than 25 locations around the US and Europe.
2017: American Moy Yat Kung Fu returns to Hong Kong
In April of 2017, Grandmaster Moy Tung made his first trip to Hong Kong, the city where his Sifu, Moy Yat, learned from the great Yip Man. With him were three generations of Moy Tung-lineage Sifus; Austin MY3 Sifu Moy Sup Tung Aaron Vyvial and his student, Houston MY4 Sifu Nic Bartell; Detroit MY Sifu Lung Yat Tung Owen Matson; and MY5 Sifu DC Mark.
2016: Detroit Kung Fu Ten-Year Anniversary
June 2016, Detroit Kung Fu, founded by MY4 Sifu Lung Yat Tung Owen Matson, celebrated its ten-year anniversary with a long weekend training workshop. Grandmaster Moy Tung attended, as did Lung Yat Tung’s own Sifu; the Sigung of the Detroit school, MY3 Sifu Moy Yat Tung Rob Squatrito. Moy Tung-lineage Sifus and students from over a dozen cities also turned out to observe the occasion and engage in Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu training.
2016: MY3 Branch Opens in Christiansburg, Va
April of 2016, MY3 Sifu and Moy Yat GSS member Urs Moy Mueller opened the doors of his new school in the New River Valley, Christiansburg, Va. He teaches the Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu martial arts system as he learned it, true to the maxim ‘Ving Tsun Chuen Jing Tung’, meaning ‘Ving Tsun passing down authentically, unchanged one’s own ideas.’
2013: Iowa City 20-Year Anniversary
The Iowa City Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy celebrated 20 years in 2013. The Iowa school was founded in 1993 by Grandmaster Moy Tung disciple and Moy Yat GSS member MY3 Sifu Moy Yat Tung Rob Squatrito. Iowa City was the first branch school in the Moy Tung lineage. Grandmaster Moy Yat visited the Iowa school for seminars a number of times before his passing in 2001.
2011: 25th Anniversary, Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu
March of 2011, the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy observed the 25th anniversary of its founding by Grandmaster Moy Tung in 1986. His mission was then, and still is, ‘Ving Tsun chuen jing tung’; authentically passing on the Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu system, unchanged. It had been a decade since the passing of Grandmaster Moy Yat passed, so it was it was a bittersweet occasion, missing the now-almost-legendary Grandmaster, while honoring and appreciating his legacy with Ving Tsun Kung Fu training and teaching.
2004: Chesterfield MY3 Branch Grand Opening
In August 2004, the Chesterfield MTAA branch school celebrated its grand opening by hosting a seminar with Grandmaster Moy Tung. The Chesterfield Elite Training Academy was founded by MY3 Sifu Moy Yee Tung, Grandmaster Moy Tung’s second Sifu-level disciple.
Sifu Moy Yee Tung teaches the Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu martial arts system the same way he learned it from his Sifu, passing it down, unchanged - Ving Tsun Chuen Jing Tung.
2000: Moy Yat Biu Gee Certification Seminar at the Richmond Academy
Grandmaster Moy Yat officially retired in 1998, but continued to work and hang out with his SSA and GSS students. In 2000, in what would be his last seminar, he chose to do a Biu Gee Certification Seminar at the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy.
The Richmond Academy was founded by Moy Yat SSA disciple Anthony Moy Tung Dandridge in 1986, and Grandmaster Moy Yat had been regularly giving seminars there ever since.
1997: Moy Yat Street Fighting Seminar in Richmond
At his 1997 Street Fighting Seminar in Richmond, Va, Grandmaster Moy Yat discussed Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu principles, training methods, fighting techniques and strategies applicable to real world situations, and told stories from his own Kung Fu life experiences.
1995: Richmond Moy Yat Seminar: Chi Sao on Centerline
In 1995, Grandmaster Moy Yat gave a seminar at the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy titled ‘Chi Sao on Centerline’, the fundamental principle in Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu training and fighting. The seminar included a technical presentation and demonstration of basic Ving Tsun training principles, which are also the most advanced techniques and methods in the system. Advanced Chi Sao and Maai Sang Jong training come from Siu Nim Tao and Pak Sao.
