2021, Mar: Eternal Spring Celebration, RVA

March 13, 2021, in celebration of Grandmaster Moy Tung’s birthday, the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy hosted a four-hour event dedicated to health, vitality, longevity, and Chi Kung as developed in authentic Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu training. This event was open to active Moy Yat Kung Fu family members.

The workout was followed by a traditional Chinese Kung Fu dinner, and reflections on the legacy of Grandmaster Moy Yat by SSA Grandmaster Moy Tung and GSS members of the MY3.

Plum blossoms herald the coming of Spring in China, and have since ancient times. Moy Tung-lineage Ving Tsun Kung Fu students recognize the five-petal shape of the Moy flower, the symbol created by Grandmaster Moy Yat to represent his Kung Fu. Moy Yat was the name given him by his Sifu, Yip Man (Ip Man); it means ‘Number One Plum Tree.’

To receive such a name as ‘Moy Yat’ from the now almost-legendary Yip Man is a great honor in the history of the Ving Tsun system. In addition to signifying Spring, and calling to mind the meaning of the name ‘Yim Ving Tsun’, the Plum tree is known for its strong roots, resilience and integrity.

Grandmaster Anthony Moy Tung Dandridge received a similar honor from his own Sifu, Moy Yat, with the bestowing of his Kung Fu name, Moy Tung. This name means, ‘Plum Tree from the East’, a profound statement on the character of Moy Tung’s Kung Fu in the eyes of his Sifu.

Moy Yat SSA disciple Moy Tung founded the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy in 1986, and today his own lineage has grown to well over 20 branch schools, with three generations of students teaching.
