At age ten, Anthony Moy Tung Dandridge began learning martial arts from his father, a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He became intensely interested in finding the source of the martial arts, and considered his training a quest for the highest level. Eventually, he became a Karate instructor, but he was still searching.
In 1980, Anthony Dandridge began training under Grandmaster Moy Yat, and, having found what he was looking for, devoted himself entirely to mastering the Ving Tsun Kung Fu system, as taught by Moy Yat. June 28, 1984, on Moy Yat’s birthday, he became his Sifu’s disciple by joining Moy Yat’s Special Student Association (SSA). Grandmaster Moy Yat gave him his Kung Fu name, Moy Tung, meaning ‘Man from the East’, because of the way he approached life and Kung Fu training, and he had his name legally changed.
In 1986, at his Sifu’s direction, Anthony Moy Tung Dandridge founded the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy. Moy Tung would regularly visit his Sifu in New York, often bringing students with him. He would also bring Grandmaster Moy Yat to Richmond, Virginia to do workshops for his grandstudents there.
From the beginning, the now-Grandmaster Moy Tung’s idea was to train others to also master and teach the complete Ving Tsun system, passing it down authentically and unchanged, the way he learned it. Today, there are three generations of students teaching Ving Tsun Kung Fu in the Moy Tung lineage, with more than two dozen schools around the U.S. and in Europe.
This website, KungFuHQ.com, is for the organization of these branches, the Moy Tung Athletic Association (MTAA).
