KXAN: “Women’s self-defense harnesses Kung Fu approach”

The Austin Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy offers self-defense classes for women, using training in the Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu martial arts system. The school is run by MY3 Sifu Aaron Vyvial, a disciple of Grandmaster Anthony Moy Tung, founder of the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy, and SSA disciple of the late Grandmaster Moy Yat.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Self-defense classes are popular among women. Learning the skills and discipline takes the help of a pro.

The masters at the Austin Kung Fu studio, Moy Yat, teach women realistic, proven methods to better defend themselves — should the situation call for it.

Aaron Vyvial runs Moy Yat. They specialize in a Kung Fu-style called Ving Tsun.

“Ving Tsun Kung Fu, the martial art we teach, is one of the only martial arts that is said to have been designed and taught by a woman,” said Vyvial. “It doesn’t depend on size, it doesn’t depend on athletic ability, and it doesn’t depend on strength.”

Vyvial’s business partner and wife, Sarah Clendenen, showed us some of the first things women learn in their self-defense courses.
